Moderator: Tore Hongset, Joint Rescue Coordination Centre Norway

Description: This session will discuss the management of voluntary organisations in land based Search and Rescue in Norway. The voluntary organisations are the very backbone of the SAR resources in land-based SAR in Norway, representing specialized roles and capacities of search and rescue. A SAR operation is directed by a JRCC or a Rescue Sub Centre (the Norwegian Police), and in order to utilize the capabilities in a best possible way, the voluntary organisations and the Norwegian rescue services have developed a system that supports tactical leadership for the Incident Commander (IC). This system is called FAKS (Common Action Support System) and assists the IC in planning, tasking, and utilizing available SAR assets in an effective manner.
