Description: Remote Northern communities face unique emergency response challenges, from geographic isolation to health disparities among Indigenous populations. Research shows that trained lay responders can save lives at low cost, yet sustainable, culturally sensitive models remain underexplored. Our study combines a systematic review, qualitative synthesis, and stakeholder insights to evaluate and inform interventions involving lay responders in Arctic settings. By mapping best practices and addressing cultural and feasibility concerns, we aim to inform scalable, community-driven solutions. Join us as we share key findings and explore innovative approaches to strengthening emergency care in underserved Northern regions.
Description: Join us for an important discussion on preparedness and practices in Indigenous communities across Northern Canada. Focusing on past flooding experiences and wildfire preparedness, we will explore effective strategies to ensure the safety of vulnerable populations, especially elders. We’ll also highlight emerging technologies that can enhance health services in Artic communities, addressing critical barriers to healthcare access. While emphasizing the importance of traditional and land knowledge and how it works within your preparedness and practices while working alongside communities.
