Lessons learned from the large wildfires in Sweden 2014 & 2018

Description: Fire is a natural component in the Swedish boreal forest, but the large fire years are far enough apart that we tend to forget about the potential for large wildfires in our forest landscape. The fires of 2014 and 2018 reminded us that we need to improve the prevention and handling of large wildfires also in Sweden. This presentation shares some of the lessons learned and what the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency has done to address some of the issues identified. It will also briefly touch on what remains to be done.

  • Speaker: Jenny Sander, Senior Officer, Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency, Civil Protection Department, Natural Hazards and Climate Adaptation Section
