Description: Pine forests are adapted to a natural fire frequency, which has created open sunlit forests with living and dead trees of varying ages and wood qualities – forests that provides substrates for a rich diversity of species. Prescribed burning has been used as a forest management method since the 1990s in Sweden, to maintain and increase ecosystem health in these fire-adapted pine forests. During the past decade, the Swedish County Administrative Boards have increased their capacity and experience to conduct prescribed burning within two EU-funded LIFE projects. Presenters will share methods on how they work with fire- and risk management.
