Internship at the Arctic Council Secretariat

The Arctic Council Secretariat (ACS) serves and supports the work of the Arctic Council, and particularly the successive Chairships of the Arctic Council. The ACS is currently composed of 14 international staff members and is based at the Fram Centre in Tromsø, Norway.

Description and duties

The intern will report to the Head of Administration and be involved in the following tasks and duties:

  • Assist with daily administrative and financial routines, including purchase of office supplies and general upkeep of office area
  • Support the Emergency Prevention, Preparedness and Response (EPPR) and the Arctic Contaminants Action Program (ACAP) Working Groups with communication and outreach activities, and other administrative tasks as needed
  • Provide administrative and logistical support in connection with meetings and conferences
  • Support with ACS information management and archiving processes
  • Support to other ACS functions and initiatives as appropriate

Skills and qualifications

  • Applicants must be enrolled in a university degree program, Bachelor’s or Master’s level (or have concluded studies no later than 12 months before the application deadline)
  • A service-minded disposition
  • Multitasking abilities
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work well in a team setting
  • Experience with basic business software, including Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Strong oral and written English skills

Experience living in the Arctic is considered an asset.

Requirements

In accordance with the ACS Staff Rules, article 5.2, applicants for this position MUST be a citizen of one of the eight Arctic States (Canada, Kingdom of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Russia, Sweden and USA). This is an absolute and non-negotiable requirement.

Terms of employment

The intern will be granted a temporary contract of 12-14 months with a probation period of two months. The salary is set at NOK 35 000 per month. The ACS will cover travel to/from Tromsø. The ACS will not cover accommodation or other costs of living.
